A Thought On Zombies

Why can't you just hit them with a mallet and bash their guts out? I mean, after a few days or weeks of decay, the flesh and guts of a zombie would be like a small, wet teething cracker. Heck, you could just give it a good punch, and its head will pop off (due to the decay of the tendons, joints and things in the spinal cord). Gosh, no need for guns except in a REALLY large swarm.
